Many on Twitter will know of the very open nature of Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony. He is followed by many Leeds fans and often has interaction with fans of many Football League clubs. He’s very respected by fans from many clubs and after yesterdays game he was kind enough to give me his views on the Leeds team in a Q and A exclusive to Peacock and Smiley.

Darragh responded to me and then through the Posh Press Officer I asked 5 questions(he answered two in one), and received an email back with Darragh’s views.

1. Who caught your eye in the Leeds team today and why?

Darragh, “Roofe I absolutely love as a player and will be a massive success for Leeds as will Grimes in my opinion, not to mention the usual home grown talent already a firm fixture in the team.”

2. What do you think we need to add to the team you saw today?

Darragh, “Worry they don’t have that prolific 25+ goal scoring front man with rapid pace others may have in the Championship and that is always a big difference at the time. Also more legs/energy in central midfield and ball playing centre back as defensively big and strong but that one more in their needed for me. Get those three types signed/stay injury free and top 6 for sure.”

3. Garry Monk, thoughts on that move for Leeds?

Darragh, “Monk impresses me the way he plays as evident in first half when Leeds were excellent with the ball on the floor. Taken a big risk going there under the owner who likes a sacking but respect him for it. Get the support, he will flourish in my opinion.”

4. What did you think of the Leeds fans today?

Darragh, “Leeds fans awesome in the way they support their team in good and bad times in good numbers and after years of mediocrity and average league positions they deserve some success and fun. Absolute sleeping giant of a club which would only make the Premier League better in my opinion.”

For the Chairman of a Football club to answer questions to a fan for their website is unheard of really. If you are on Twitter and don’t follow Darragh it’s well worth doing. is interaction with fans is very refreshing and interesting. Big thank you to him for taking the time to respond to the questions.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
