Leeds have today confirmed the signing of Swedish centre-back Pontus Jansson on a season long loan with the option of a permanent deal. Jansson joins from Italian Serie A club Torino and is re-united with Pep Clotet. The pair previously worked together at Malmo FF and Monk has moved to secure the highly-rated defender.

Jansson (25) comes with a glowing reputation from his days in Sweden. Some fans are actually saying he’s too good for the Championship and will make at huge impact at Elland Road. He’s known for top class positioning and timing as well as being good with the ball at his feet. His 6 ft 5 frame would suggest he’s capable in the air and the video below shows his ability all round.

I’ll be writing about the future of Sol Bamba tonight, the Ivorian has probably just fallen to 4th in the pecking order at Leeds United despite retaining the captaincy from last season. Jansson is in contention to start at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, whetehr he will partner Liam Cooper or Kyle Bartley remains to be seen.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
