Garry Monk has named a very different looking side to play Luton Town tonight with a few surprises thrown in to the mix. After Monk fielded argualbly his strongest team (at the time) against Fleetwood in the first round we expected a similar team but some players have been rested during a hectic schedule. Here is the team in full and my thoughts on the team.

Team to play Luton

Marco Silvestri – I’m not sure Silvestri should be back in the team, hopefully he is confident and has been working on his weaknesses, can keep us in games with his reflexes when on top of his game.

Lewie Coyle – Happy to see Coyle back in the side after being replaced by the impressive Luke Ayling in recent weeks. Will hopefully impress, great prospect for the future. Can link up well and support Dallas if we get on the front foot early on.

Sol Bamba – The 4th choice centre-back for me, playing because Cooper and Bartley need a rest. Due a good game so hopefully that will be tonight.

Pontus Jansson – Called up to the Swedish national squad today and comes with a glowing reputation. Needs the game time and will have to contend with the rough and tumble of Luton Town and English league football which will do him the world of good.

Tyler Denton – Another I’m happy to see get a chance in the team. Impressed me in the under 21’s last season and then the first-team during pre-season. Big chance to impress tonight with Charlie Taylor the only other left-back currently in the squad.

Luke Murphy – The biggest surprise in the team. A player who hasn’t made the squad once this season in league or cup and a player expected to depart currently. Chance for him to show his ability and impress the coaching staff at the club.

Matt Grimes – One of the players who hasn’t really hit the ground running at the club. Started the opening day shambles at Queens Park Rangers but hasn’t featured since. Fantastic left foot and can easily make an impact tonight. Needs to get on the ball and dictate the play.

Stuart Dallas – Big game for a player who has really struggled since the season started. Has looked well off the pace as is to be expected but should be causing problems for the League Two side tonight. Can get a goal and get into the pockets to create chances.

Pablo Hernandez – Really should be taking this game by the scruff of the neck from the word go. Has the ability and can decide which way the game goes in a heartbeat.

Kemar Roofe – Back to League Two opposition for the £3 million man and he will want to show how good he is. Started on the bench in 2 of the last 3 games and made a big impact on Saturday, setting up the second goal at Sheffield Wednesday.

Souleymane Doukara – On Friday night it seemed inevitable that Doukara would be leaving the club at some point, certainly not in the overall plans under Garry Monk. Did exactly what he was asked to do in Sheffield and makes a start tonight. Needs to hold onto the ball and link with the midfield.

Lets hope we can get a win and keep the momentum going into Saturday.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
