If winning a couple of games wasn’t good enough then this news is perfect timing. Swiss defender Gaetano Berardi has returned to training tonight ahead of tomorrows League Cup meeting with Blackburn Rovers. The game may come to soon, probably in fact but he may well be looking at a return before the end of the month, what a boost.

Berardi arrived from Italy for a staggering £200k. Staggering because £200k is such a low fee for someone of Berardi’s quality it’s ridiculous. Berardi started off and was a bit of a liability. Red cards, rash tackles and a fierce temper saw him fall out of the first team plans until the new year. All of a sudden the passion was harnessed and we had one of the most passionate and committed players seen at Elland Road in many a year.

He suffered an injury at the start of pre-season and missed basically the whole thing. His return was against Queens Park Rangers and a very un-Berardi like 20 minutes saw him subbed off with what turned out to be another injury that’s taken him to this point. There aren’t many fans who would see Berardi anywhere but Leeds and the news of his return is only good news. Now he has to earn his spot back with Luke Ayling impressing at the club since his arrival from Bristol City.

Welcome back Gaetano.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
