I genuinely couldn’t think of a more important player in the squad to be injured than Chris Wood. We have others that can replace players in their position, but up front we are severely lacking in viable options. Marcus Antonsson was injured last night and Mallik Wilks was called up to the first team.

I would say the only other player who we simply can’t lose for any period of time is Pontus Jansson. It doesn’t mean others wouldn’t be missed but we have the squad to cope in other areas. When Chris Wood struggled off last night it was tough to contemplate the team without him at the front of it. Souleymane Doukara worked very hard as always but he isn’t a player we want leading the line on his own when we’re competing for play-off places.

Garry Monk has confirmed that we are in the market for a striker after failing in the final hours of the summer transfer window. January is a big month anyway, the likes of Pontus Jansson, Kyle Bartley, Hadi Sacko and Pablo Hernandez all looking good and deals potentially on the table. Fingers crossed it’s good news on Chris Wood in the coming days.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
