There isn’t much left to say that hasn’t been said on social media but I’ll give it a go. Leeds United beaten by Sutton United deservedly as well, a limp and embarrassing performance from most. Garry Monk has since said he went too far with the changes and takes full responsibility.
I’m not having that the team put out shouldn’t have won the game. Despite ten changes we should be turning over Sutton. Monk was maybe making a point to Cellino and Radrizzani that the strength in depth isn’t there and he’s right, but his wholesale changes have backfired and it’s come at a cost. Winning games is important and we need the momentum. The Blackburn game on Wednesday is much more important but that doesn’t mean today wasn’t important.
There were some shockers today. Stand out for me was Liam Cooper who was captain and certainly led the side to the defeat, setting the tone by getting bullied from the start and then getting sent off in the 82nd minute. He wasn’t alone and Marcus Antonsson, Matt Grimes and a few others were up there with him. These players need to think about what they did today and ask themselves where they want their Leeds United careers to go. For some I can say with confidence, it will go nowhere.
Sutton deserved their win easily and fair play to them. The record books will show that Sutton United beat Leeds United, not that it was a weakened Leeds United. Even the more reliable players like Lewie Coyle and Kalvin Phillips were shocking today. The only player to come out of that game with their head held high is Mallik Wilks who showed amazing bravery and courage to do what he did. Paul McKay probably deserves a mention as well, he was steady on the day for a debut. Maybe some of the others should realise what they have playing for Leeds United.
Silvestri – 4 – Typical Silvestri, good saves and then costs us the game by not commanding an easy situation.
Coyle – 5 – Worst game in a Leeds shirt.
McKay – 6 – Didn’t put a foot wrong to be fair, best Leeds player on the day.
Cooper – 3 – Simply awful, bullied by Non-League strikers and sent off.
Denton – 4 – Very poor.
Grimes – 3 – Second half was worst central midfield display I’ve seen from a pairing this season.
Phillips – 4 – Not helped alongside Grimes, second half woeful.
Whitehouse – 4 – Some good touches but weak and not involved enough.
Dallas – 4 – Being generous with that.
Doukara – 4 – Another one off his off-days, at least showed for ball whilst on.
Antonsson – 3 – I’m questioning what he brings to the side. Truly awful today.
Sacko – 4 – Did nothing.
Wilks – 6 – Tremendous bravery today. Bright future.
Roofe – 6 – Got on the ball and tried to make things happen.
