A rare sight today as Souleymane Doukara took to the press conference ahead of the Reading game on Saturday evening. The French forward is rarely heard from but made a statement regarding the fans today that was so true, and makes you realise the players aren’t in a bubble.

Doukara’s statement isn’t something to raise eyebrows within the clubs fan base. If we went to China many fans would be making the trip, no doubt about it. The fact that with a handful of games left in our best season, and a season where support has been huge for the club Doukara has said this only helps show the bond now between the players and the fans. It’s something small but it makes you think to yourself, they do understand what it means to play for Leeds United, and for a player that wasn’t always apparently committed, it makes the level of importance that much greater.

I would have got rid of Doukara last before last season, then even again this summer for two very different reasons. I remember writing articles about Doukara slating him, saying he didn’t want to play for Leeds, and that he didn’t understand what it meant to play for Leeds. I admit now I was wrong about him but that’s how I felt at the time. Doukara has been an important player this season and has come up with some crucial moments. The penalty against Brighton is a key example, and he just keeps coming up with the goods when the pressure seems to be mounting on him. Having done the presser today I think he may well start up front on Saturday, with Wood touch and go.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
