Chris Wood nets his 30th goal of the season…how many people thought that would be said at the start of the season? Even those who rated Wood probably wouldn’t have believed you. In front of a packed away end Leeds came back from an early goal to take a point on a sunny afternoon in Wigan.
The only absentee that we were surprised at was Charlie Taylor who didn’t even make the bench but as we later found out he actually refused to play for the club. The less said on that the better, he leaves with no good feeling and I certainly don’t wish him any good luck after that disgusting and bizarre decision. Leeds started well, Roofe and Hernandez both going close before a simple through pass meant we were 1-0 down against the run of play. We controlled the game but slack passing in the final third meant we didn’t create much…sound familiar?
We started the second half much better, Kemar Roofe became much more involved and Eunan O’Kane was dominating the game as he had done for most of the game. He drove into the box and won a penalty mid half, something the midfield hasn’t done enough this season (driving forward not winning penalties). After that Omar Bogle caused a few problems but Rob Green was up to the challenge and we just didn’t have the craft in the final third. Roofe came close from 20 yards with a half volley and then had a header saved but that was as close as we came. Another season gone but for once we can build rather than rebuild, under Garry Monk please.
Man of the Match – Eunan O’Kane – Quality on the ball and showed what we have missed with him sitting on the bench. Forward thinking and quality on the ball.
Green – 9 – Quality again, had a fantastic season. Kept Omar Bogle at bay more than once.
Coyle – 7 – Needs to seriously work on his final ball, an engine up the right though.
Ayling – 6 – Struggled to contain Bogle but good on the ball, had a great season.
Bartley – 8 – Solid and confident, fingers crossed he stays.
Berardi – 6 – Seemed to get wound up at times and smash the ball out, solid, another great season.
O’Kane – 9 – Brilliant, forward thinking and in control of the game.
Vieira – 7 – Gave ball away a few times but was strong and didn’t stop.
Dallas – 5 – Didn’t do much at all really.
Hernandez – 5 – Very poor, came far too deep from the very start.
Roofe – 6 – Came close to scoring, very poor first half though.
Wood – 7 – Worked hard, got another gaol, won the golden boot.
