Leeds United midfielder, and academy graduate, Alex Purver has made his loan move at National League side Guiseley into a permanent deal following the expiry of his contract .

The 21 year old joined the fellow Yorkshire side at the beginning of the season after training for much of the pre-season with Leeds’ first team- despite having not previously featured in the first team. Prior to his loan, Purver was one of the stand out performers for United’s under 21 side, which has since been converted into an under 23 side, and made 33 appearances in the 2015/16 season.

Before his loan move to Guiseley, Purver signed a one year deal in June- which will expire at the end of next month, and the youngster has been let free early to make his move to the fifth tiered side permanent.

Although the move has not been officially announced by either club, Leeds’ physio Sean Rush announced the departure of the youngster on his Twitter account (@Smrush68Sean) tweeting: ‘All the best to this fella @alex_purver , can genuinely say that in my time in football they don’t come much better than this kid. #lufc’.

Purver was tipped to achieve big things at Leeds in previous seasons, after progressing all the way through Leeds’ academy levels and becoming one of the key players in the under 21 team. Some even dubbed him as one of the next players to progress into the first team from the academy sides, following in the footsteps of previous academy graduates Sam Byram, Lewis Cook and Alex Mowatt to name just a few.

However Purver’s time at his boyhood club has come to an end, and after making 23 appearances for Guiseley this season, scoring two goals from the heart of the midfield, he may have found his level for the time being. Although saying that, the youngster will aim to progress back through the footballing pyramid and attempt to prove United wrong in which could prove to be a player which never got a real chance at Elland Road.
