After the news that Garry Monk has quit his job as head-coach of Leeds United the stories have began circling about who his replacement will be. Above any other name currently is Spaniard Aitor Karanka who was sacked from Middlesbrough a couple of months ago after leading them to promotion.

Karanka joined Boro and led them to the play-off final in his first full season in charge before taking them up in second place just a year later. Karanka fell out with the club and is known for being very stubborn, although the bounce back from one falling out was the catalyst to automatic promotion. The Spanish connection shouldn’t be understated at the club after the arrival of ex-Real Madrid man Ivan Bravo behind the scenes. Alan Nixon reported a few weeks back that the club may look to go down the Spanish route come the summer.

On top of that Leeds are set to announce Middlesbrough man Victor Orta as the new director of football at the club, replacing Ben Mansford who was in a similar role. Orta is another Spaniard who (according to reports in Spain) is on the brink of joining the club as one of Andrea Radrizzani’s main men. The links are beginning to form and TeamTalk reported in the last few days Leeds were already in touch with Karanka in case Monk didn’t stay, something which came around very quickly.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
