Ever since Garry Monk resigned from the helm at Leeds United two weeks ago, many names have been linked with the Elland Road hotseat. First was Aitor Karanka, then Claudio Ranieri and the latest odds on favourite Pep Clotet- Garry Monk’s right hand man during his 12 month stay at United.

However, Leeds United expert Phil Hay has suggested that the Spaniard is not what Leeds are looking for as head coach, but has stated that the club would like to keep the 40 year old at the club.

Hay tweeted on his twitter account (@PhilHayYEP): ‘I don’t expect the club to go for Clotet as head coach. They think highly of him but that option is seen as a risk.’

Clotet is rated highly at Leeds, and was brought to Leeds by Monk along with fellow coach James Beattie. Monk has opted to take Beattie with him to his next destination, which is expected to be Middlesbrough. The teesside club were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season after being promoted the previous season, and were without a permanent manager since the sacking of Aitor Karanka in March; with Steve Agnew taking temporary charge. However, Pep has chosen to stay at Leeds and presumably continue his assistant head coach role alongside the yet to be appointed Leeds chief.

Pep himself has had stints as the main man, previously managing spanish sides Figueres, Espanyol B and Malaga B, as well as Norwegian side Halmstads. However, his managerial record on paper does not look so good, hence the reason why Leeds see it as a risk to appoint Clotet as head coach and would rather have him as a valued member of the coaching staff.

With pre-season fast approaching and Clotet the latest name to be ruled out for the job, Leeds need to find themselves a new head coach- and quick!
