It seems the long-running script may be coming to an end regarding Samu Saiz. The Huesca attacking midfielder is due in Leeds Monday for his medical and to complete a £3.1 million move, turning down La Liga clubs in the process.
Saiz was one of, if not the stand out player in the second tier of Spain last season according to reports in Spain and the attacking midfielder had plenty of options in terms of where he went next. Real Betis and Eibar were the two clubs who lost out to Leeds for one reason, they couldn’t compete with us financially, just take that in. The wages offered by Leeds, around £17k per week were too much for Saiz and his agent to turn down and Eibar, who seemed nailed on to win the race backed off, despite receiving a huge sum of money in recent weeks for one of their star players.
The deal has been very frustrating, but for once it hasn’t got away from us, and Leeds have their man. The deal was complicated for a number of reasons. First and foremost was that he is still attached to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid. The club are due 50% of the fee and it seems Leeds have had to negotiate with both clubs in order to get the deal over the line. We look to have done that and now it’s just the medical to get over the line. Saiz seems like a key part of the jigsaw under Thomas Christiansen and his attacking play.
