Well, in terms of a debut for the club can you remember any like it? I certainly can’t. He controlled the game tonight, a glorious performance from the Spanish number 21, and one that has left fans purring about the new signing.

Saiz, a summer signing from Huesca arrived for a fee of £3.1 million. He also arrived with a very good reputation, a player who was said to be the best player outside of La Liga in Spanish football. He came into the fold late after a delayed holiday so wasn’t really fit for the start of the season…apparently. Pablo Hernandez will have been watching tonight wondering when he is getting replaced and not I. Saiz ran the show for the first half hour and most of the second half, with players around him who aren’t currently in the first-team.

His first goal came as he reacted quickest to a rebound off the post, controlling and firing it home. His second showed composure, a lovely ball from Ronaldo Vieira found him and he rounded the keeper to slot home at a key stage in the game. The third was a brilliant counter attack led by Alioski, and set up by the impressive Caleb Ekuban before Saiz took it in his stride and smashed it into the back of the net before celebrating in front of the Kop after a moment that he will never forget, and neither will we. The opposition are insignificant, the fact it’s the League Cup also.

Saiz didn’t just score a hat-trick tonight he was class all over. His low centre of gravity and clever passing, moving and all round play was a joy to behold and there won’t be many more games where he will sit on the bench. He gave the Leeds salute to both stands as he left the pitch, on top of a hat-trick, what more could we want?

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
