Some brilliant news that has broken in the last half hour has been confirmed by Phil Hay and Adam Pope. Burnley have submitted and improved offer for Chris Wood this morning, a bid that Leeds have rejected. Burnley have now turned their attention elsewhere in search of a striker.
The original bid of £12 million was laughable, Leeds not wanting to sell the player. Every player does have a price as we found out with Neymar in recent weeks but it seems Burnley’s pursuit of the New Zealand skipper may well end today. They have now submitted a bid for a Deportivo striker and are favourites to sign Southampton and Republic Of Ireland striker Shane Long according to the bookies. Leeds fans are delighted with the news, Chris Wood a key player at the club and clearly the club were willing to dig their heels in on this one, and it may well have paid off.
Wood, a striker who hasn’t ever been settled now has a home at Leeds United and it would seem like he isn’t to fussed about a move just yet, no word from him or his agent on wanting to leave to head for pastures new, despite what would be better money and a chance at the Premier League. Wood scored 30 goals for the club last season, joining a select band of players to do that in the famous all white and he already has one from the first two games this season. The news that Burnley have turned their attention to other options is great timing ahead of tonight’s game against Fulham.
