Leeds United head coach Thomas Christensen has left Hadi Sacko and Souleymane Doukara out of training prior of Tuesdays League Cup clash with League Two side Newport County at Elland Road.

The duo have barely featured under the reign of Christensen, with Sacko making one substitute appearance and Doukara failing to make the bench in the first five games of the season. The reason for their absence is yet to be known, however Doukara has been linked with a permanent move to Preston North End in the past week, with it obvious that his outings under Christensen will be limited. 23 year old Hadi Sacko made the switch from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon on a permanent deal earlier on in the summer transfer window for arounf £1.5million after spending last campaign on loan, when he made 38 league appearances and finding the net on two occasions.

With Leeds struggling for attacking options, following the departure of Chris Wood to Burnley as well as the injury sustained by Caleb Ekuban on his full league debut at Sunderland, under 23 strikers Eoghan Stokes and Mallik Wilks have trained with the first team; as well as centre back Paudie O’Connor. Wilks made his first team debut away to Sutton United in the FA Cup last term, coming on as a second half substitution, and has not been involved in the first team since. Stokes has impressed in Leeds’ development squad for a number of seasons now, however has never broke into the first eleven despite featuring for the Republic of Ireland’s youth teams.

Leeds have also been struggling for defensive options this season, with Matthew Pennington sustaining a lengthy injury on the opening day of the season at Bolton; limiting Leeds to three centre-backs in Jansson, Cooper and Shaughnessy. This may allow O’Connor to make an appearance on Tuesday night, with Leeds heading to Nottingham Forest five days later; so Christensen would not want to risk any more injuries ahead of the visit to the County Ground.

United’s injuries may allow the development youngsters to feature in Tuesday’s League Cup game against Newport, with it becoming more and more likely that Doukara is nearing the exit door at Elland Road.
