We ended up running out comfortable winners in this game so if you weren’t there you may be surprised at some of these rather low ratings. Given the scoreline you would be forgiven for thinking that we were very good but it took until a Kemar Roofe goals before the break to even look like we may win the game. Two hat-tricks in back to back league games is remarkable, and has never been done in our history.

Player Ratings

Rob Green – 5 – I though Green had a poor night between the sticks. He looked rusty which can be forgiven but any chance he had of forcing his way back into the side just by him playing well all but evaporated when he made a mess of the opening goal.

Anita – 5 – He was injured for the second half but he was really off the pace in the first. poor with the ball and was given a torrid time without it. Was caught out of position early on and was bailed out by a brilliant Green save. Hopefully injury isn’t too bad.

Shaugnessey – 7 – The best of the defenders last night, very good at actually holding up the Newport attacks. He needs to cut out this long ball that’s crept in over the last few games. It won’t get him anywhere.

Ayling – 5 – Was solid until Anita went off then had to deal with Nouble, something he didn’t do. Four times in the last twenty minutes Ayling found himself turned inside out. Captained the side until Liam Cooper came on.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson – 6 – A decent performance and I would have to say he offers much more going forward than Vurnon Anita. Did have a dodgy moment but should have been a free-kick and Green was stick on his line.

Ronaldo Vieira – 5 – Had a very poor game despite the late goal. Just a blip as he tries to get up to full throttle under Thomas Christiansen. Has just been called up to the England under 20’s. Big season ahead, where he will be a key player.

Mateusz Klich – 7 – Steady game, rarely gave the ball away and got a big 90 minutes under his belt as he tries to claw back fitness after an injury problem in pre-season. Very tidy on the ball and always an option when others have it.

Stuart Dallas – 6 – Much talk about the future of Stuart Dallas after reported interest from Norwich City today. Grew into the game and ended up being influential in one of the goals, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him start at Forest.

Eoghan Stokes – 4 – Very poor, mainly because he didn’t get into game at all. The Irish youngster is a key player for the under 23’s but he just looked out of his depth at times. Needs to be more confident when the chances come.

Magdar Gomes – 6 – Started very well but got quieter as the game went on as others grew into it. Looks a real talent, athletic and clever on the ball. Doesn’t look like a winger to me, would like to see him through the middle at some point.

Kemar Roofe – 9 – Ended up having his best game in a Leeds shirt. Started poor but had little service. Got a scrappy goal before two lovely finishes and an unlucky chip from 30 yards that came back off the crossbar. Big game for him. #PAS MOM

Samu Saiz – 8 – Classy when he came on. Pulled the strings and played some wonderful passes.

Liam Cooper – 7 – Did well when he came on. Hasn’t put a foot wrong this season.

Ezgjan Alioski – 6 – Didn’t have much times and played up front. Will be key on Saturday.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
