If Sunderland was our best performance of the season last weekend then this was hard to describe. No Wood? No problem. From start to finish Leeds dominated one of the most in-form sides in the division, and on another night it could have been five or six, and that is no joke. Forest couldn’t cope and the only reason we didn’t get more was because we seemed to be at a canter when we went forward. Some high scores are coming up.

Player Ratings

Felix Wiedwald – 7 – Wiedwald was solid tonight but was well protected by the immense back four. His confidence on the ball is so refreshing and I still can’t see why some criticise him. He was playing as a sweeper again tonight, and it helped out those in front.

Luke Ayling – 8 – Very good tonight up against Nottingham Forest’s best player Barrie McKay. Apart from once he was left by the Scottish winger he was very good, and also linked up well going forward. Forming a solid partnership down the right with Alioski.

Pontus Jansson – 8 – No goals conceded since while Jansson has been on the pitch this season…incredible.

Liam Cooper – 8 – I’ll be honest, I didn’t think he would still be in the side let alone performing like he is. Quality again tonight and part of a defence that hasn’t conceded a league goal in four games. Looks like the captaincy has inspired him.

Vurnon Anita – 8 – Quality again tonight especially when Ben Brereton came on down the Nottingham forest right. Got forward much more tonight which was good to see because it has seemed his one weakness tonight.

Eunan O’Kane – 8 – Quality again tonight. Dominated the pace of the game and got in about Forest when they reached the edge of our box. Was seen gliding past Liam Bridcutt on various occasions. Most consistent player so far this season.

Kalvin Phillips – 9 – Just like Liam Cooper I have slated Phillips at times but he was the best player on the park tonight. It’s all well and good the attacking players playing well but the engine room has to be on point and he absolutely embarrassed Liam Bridcutt tonight. Won every tackle, passing (bar one wild swing) was brilliant. Very impressive. #PAS MOM

Ezgjan Alioski – 9 – At times he gets into great positions and chooses the wrong option but as an outlet he is head and shoulders above any other Leeds player in a long time. Had Traoure on toast during spells and took the goal very well.

Samu Saiz – 9 – Saiz was class again tonight. I think at times he was so chilled out on the ball he slowed down potential attacks but it meant we just kept the ball. He dictated our forward play and at £3 million we have the bargain of the season.

Pablo Hernandez – 6 – Kept floating inside and was decent on the ball but I felt he wasn’t keeping up with Saiz and Alioski and I do think being played from left is tough for him. Anita has a lot on his shoulders when Pablo is somewhere in the middle of the park and the opposition come down his side. Looked disappointed with himself as he was subbed.

Kemar Roofe – 8 – I though Roofe was very good tonight and has really put a marker down for the other strikers wanting to play there in the near future. Linked up so well with those behind him and scored a lovely header. Looks a new player the last two games.

Subs

Jay-Roy Grot – 6- Looked shattered after the first few minutes, getting up to scratch with lightning Leeds attacks tonight wasn’t easy. Bounced Traoure into next year and looked good on the ball. Absolute unit.

Dallas – 6 – I thought he looked good tonight when he came on. Looks refreshed and surely in line to start over Hernandez soon.

Vieira – N/A

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
