A whirlwind 90 minutes that wowed the capacity Elland Road crowed from the very start. We could have been three up before Lasogga eventually powered home the opener and it could have been ten by the end. The slump after international break was nowhere to be seen and we now sit in second place behind Cardiff City, a wonderful start to the season. It’s fair to say that’s the best we have played in a long, long time.

Felix Wiedwald – 6 – Didn’t have anything to do at all really but was impressed with his passing and sweeping throughout. Really hard to rate him on today. 5 clean sheets in 6 league games…

Luke Ayling – 8 – Brilliant today. Didn’t get caught out once when he went forward and his touch and link-up play was top. Playing down that side with Roofe was a joy to behold at times and he has really stepped his game up since the signing of Vurnon Anita.

Pontus Jansson – 8 – He wasn’t really challenged today and he found himself taking on players in the corners just to keep himself busy in all honesty. We haven’t conceded a league goal with Pontus Jansson on the park this season. Staggering statistic.

Liam Cooper – 8 – Brilliant again today. Turnaround of the year so far, he has been outstanding this season and dealt with everything that came his way today, and in terms of distribution he was faultless.

Vurnon Anita – 7 – Isn’t as natural at going forward as Luke Ayling so when he did get in those positions he didn’t really find the cross, especially with being on his left foot. Very good defensively and subbed at half-time with a knock.

Eunan O’Kane – 9 – I thought in terms of pace and control O’Kane was so influential today. He was driving forward with the ball, playing little passes around the corner and was the creator of the first and second goals. He is a key part of the style Christiansen has implemented.

Kalvin Phillips – 8 – Another top-end performance for a player many of us had written off before the season. Stepped up to the task this season and deserves all the credit he is currently getting. Took his goal very well, broke into the final third time and time again and broke up play with important tackles.

Kemar Roofe – 9 – His best performance in a Leeds shirt in my eyes and one that shows how good he can be. Was all over the place today, his goal came from him coming in from the right to link up with Lasogga, turned Turner inside out and bent it home. Quality assist for Lasogga’s second.

Samu Saiz – 8 – Yet another top performance today. He has added something totally different to the side and is constantly our go-to-guy when we are going forward. Pressure was off him today due to others playing out of their skin.

Pablo Hernandez – 7 – I thought when plays did break down today it was normally through him holding the ball too long. He drifted in from the left which did pull players about, the same as Roofe on the other side. Alisoki to come back in, something has to give.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga – 9 – #PASMOM – What a start to his Leeds United career. we knew he would be decent, coming from Hamburg on a £55k per-week wage but in terms of impact this was special. Unlucky not to get four, and took both goals with extreme confidence. Chris Wood, eat your heart out.

Subs

Stuart Dallas – 7 – Came on as a left-back and didn’t have one problem, our dominance helped. Did well going forward.

Mateusz Klich – 6 – Didn’t really have the options that were there before he came on due to the game being well and truly over. Tidy passing but a couple of lazy longer balls.

Jay-Roy Grot – 6 – Didn’t really stand a chance of making an impact after Lasogga’s performance.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
