A good first half was undone by a late goal before the break and after the break it was really one way traffic. The ability from the home side was shown in the end but there was no shame on our part, just a case of one side having much more quality, and Leeds playing many of the players who can’t get a game in the side at the moment.

Player Ratings

Felix Wiedwald – 4 – Had  a very poor game and was lucky to still be on the pitch after handling outside of his area intentionally. For me he should have collected the first with his hands, could do nothing about the other two goals. Looks very low in confidence.

Vurnon Anita – 6 – I felt like he knew the importance of conceding that goal before the break more than the other players because he’s played at that level before. Looked furious at the soft nature of the equaliser and was steady throughout. I expect him to start at left-back on Friday.

Conor Shaughnessy – 6 – Didn’t think he did much wrong again last night. He’s such a steady player for someone so young and a player who has had his position altered recently. Seems to have a calmness on the ball as well. Big future.

Pontus Jansson – 5 – Didn’t have the best night but he was up against multi-million pound strikers. Ihenacho had his best game in a Leicester shirt and Slimani also wanted to put himself about. Not a great game but wasn’t helped by the keeper.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson – 7 – I thought he was having a very good half before he went off. I still believe he is the best left-back at the club, but an injury ended his game and that will mean he’s probably out of the squad again for the foreseeable future.

Mateusz Klich – 6 – Did ok in spells but didn’t ever control the game. I think he has a lot to offer on the ball but getting a  spell in the side is difficult with Christiansen clearly having him as the fourth choice currently. A non-event last night really.

Kalvin Phillips – 7 – I thought he did well last night up against a good midfield. He put himself about and to say we played quite an open style he covered the ground well. Needs to do more on the ball, he has the power and ability to make things happen and drive us forward, needs to believe in himself.

Kemar Roofe – 6 – I thought Roofe was busy and looked very creative in the first-half before drifting away in the second. Was lively and kept the ball well, also looked one of the more dangerous players. Set up the goal for Hernandez and played Grot in with a lovely pass.

Pablo Hernandez – 7 – Took his goal very well, a beautiful striker from the edge of the box and that shows his ability. The issue for me is the consistent loss of possession when he has it, just release it quicker. Had a decent game.

Pawel Cibicki – 3 – I really want him to show us a glimmer of his ability but last night he was non-existent. Needs to be getting more involved.

Jay-Roy Grot – 4 – I actually got excited when he ran and played the one-two with Roofe before shooting. He actually looked like he wanted to be on the pitch. Held it up well in first half on a couple of occasions, apart from that he really needs to get to grips with his role.

Subs

Luke Ayling – 6

Ronaldo Vieira – 6

Hadi Sacko – 5

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
