I think a couple of good games at the start of the season from winger Gjanni Alioksi showed what an outlet he can be for us. However during the recent tough period he has been very poor, and seeing him come out the other end of that has been very good to watch, and he’s come out with a bang, hopefully this is the arrival of Alioski.

Alioski arrived from Swiss side Lugano during the summer for a fee believed to be around £3.3 million. He started the season well but players don’t always adapt straight away and we have seen that since. The physical side of his game was the main issue and closely followed by his end product during games where we really struggled in the final third. His crossing and ability to hold players off was non-existent and criticism came his way through that stage. One thing that was never in question was his attitude and work-rate and that can often keep fans on side during the hard times. For me he had to be better when he got into positions but I do appreciate players working hard when things aren’t going their way.

This has been a huge week for Alioski starting against Boro. A very good and dynamic, unpredictable performance came around and he got a crucial goal as well as an assist, although on paper Kalvin Phillips will get it. Not only that he was a constant threat from the very start and during the week he scored a cracker although the performance wasn’t great. Yesterday for the first half he was a brilliant outlet and scored and set up the two goals. His pass into Saiz was a class above what some players at this level can do, and his goal was unstoppable it its own way, bent around players and so far away from where the keeper can get to.

What do we need now? Consistency is the only word. He isn’t the only one who needs to work on their consistency though, meant do all the way from Jansson to Pablo Hernandez but Alioski has set his standard now and we need to see it in the majority of games. His ability to give us an outlet and get us up the park is so important and what he can bring for the likes of Samu Saiz and Pablo Hernandez who just float about and get on the ball. The front players are a huge asset to this team when they play well and as we showed against Boro even the best defences will struggle if we turn up. Good week for Alioski, now back it up on Friday.

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
