The absence of Samu Saiz was evident yesterday, the fan favourite has hit the ground running in quite extraordinary fashion since arriving from the Spanish second division and Leeds fans, including myself can’t really believe that we managed to sign him, at a cheeky £3 million as well. His injury meant he wasn’t involved yesterday, but there is good news…

Boxing day sees us come up against Burton Albion. A few weeks ago they seemed set to be rock bottom come Christmas but as sure as we thought that, the Championship slapped us in the face. We should have known better. Burton beat Bolton away from home in a crucial game at the bottom, the home side were in good form and Burton in awful form so naturally Burton went and won 0-1. They them backed it up with a 1-2 win at Reading, the game had one of the most bizarre and shambolic goals your likely to see in world football this season, but Burton won’t care how they go in, the points went back north. They will fancy their chances of beating Leeds just as they did last season, in probably the biggest game of the season for them. The place will be wanting blood and the in-form Leeds United represent a huge chance to make a statement live on Sky Sports.

Leeds do have more than one thing going in their favour, and the big one is that Samu Saiz will be fit for a return after missing the game against Hull City yesterday. It could have been a blessing in disguise with the tough period of games coming up and Saiz adapting to a festive schedule that he hasn’t ever been involved in. In every other year of his career he would be on holiday now but this is the most hectic period in the English game and momentum and confidence is made and broken in these spells. Leeds are having a very good winter so far and Saiz will be fresh after the rest yesterday and will be raring to go against Burton, a team he terrorised earlier on this season. If he can get to grips with the tight pitch and fiery atmosphere he could help us overcome the Midlands side and help carry on the very good run we currently find ourselves on.

Saiz is without doubt the most talented player on the books at Leeds United. The spine of the team has some crucial players through it and Saiz is one of them. Behind him you have Ronaldo Vieira, a player who had the entire midfield on his shoulders at times yesterday due to the inability to keep the ball. Behind Vieira you have Pontus Jansson and between the three of them they are all crucial, as is the spine of every football team in football. Saiz is a class above most players in this league, his only competition for ability in my opinion comes from a couple of players at Wolves, the likes of Jota and Ruben Neves, the latter cost around £16 million in the summer so that tells you how good Saiz actually is. Having him back gives us a great boost ahead of the game, and he will want to make an impression on return to the side.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
