Up until a Pablo Hernandez free-kick it looked like we were taking nothing home from Burton. We started quite well but once Burton scored we looked like we ran out of ideas. The moment of magic from Pablo followed chaos in the build up to the free-kick and Roofe opening up the gap for the goal. The execution was perfect. Minutes later Vieira muscled his way onto the ball and played a glorious ball for Roofe who won the game with a delightful and tidy finsih.

Ratings

Felix Wiedwald – 6 – In all honesty he didn’t have much to do and what came into the box was cleared well. The goal was tight and there nothing the German keeper could have done. In the main his distribution was good, a couple wayward.

Luke Ayling – 5 – He did come good in the last half hour but I thought he really struggled before that. He said that one of the main issues last season was the lack of rotation from Monk, and I think it’s time he was rested for a game or two. No doubting his effort though.

Pontus Jansson – 7 – Won a lot in the air and was tight to Sordell when he needed to be. I didn’t think Cooper had a great game either so he had to make sure he was on it. Thought he was good on the ball as well, found the midfielders well.

Liam Cooper – 6 – I thought he was tidy for the majority of the game and then lost his head for a little before we got back in the game, before returning to his steady form. Let off the hook when Sordell spun him and fired wide, and the yellow was correct for his tackle.

Gaetano Berardi – 6 – Was steady and I didn’t agree he should have been sent off which was much discussed. Probably not the best advised tackle in all honesty but second half I thought he was much better.

Ronaldo Vieira – 7 – A very strange game. Played Naylor onside for the opening goal after switching off in a poor first half, then took a nasty tackle on the shin, played on and set up the winner in brilliant fashion. Wrestled his way onto the ball and picked out an unbelievable pass to release Roofe.

Eunan O’Kane – 6 – Got on the ball time and time again but I didn’t think he did enough with it. Too many square passes and sold Vieira short when he took a nasty tackle. Not afraid to keep getting on it and worked so hard off the ball.

Pawel Cibicki – 5 – Didn’t seem up for the game today in my eyes. I think he’s been decent in the last few but really didn’t get to grips with the game. Pulled out of challenges and didn’t really want the ball. Still adapting to the team and league.

Pablo Hernandez – 8 – Got on the ball time and time again and despite losing it a fair few times it was more due to others hesitating with the runs. Free-kick was sublime and I thought he was the most creative player on the pitch.

Gjanni Alioksi – 7 – Got better as the game went on and started to be an outlet for us. He didn’t really turn up until we scored which was the same for a few unfortunately. Needs to get the ball into the box quicker. Worked very hard going the other way.

Match winner with his 7th league goal of the season

Kemar Roofe – 8 – #PASMOM – The best player on the pitch for me. Always looked lively even when things weren’t going our way and looked like the only player scoring from open play. Unlucky not to score in first-half and took his goal very well. Lasogga coming on showed how well Roofe does, the German did nothing.

Subs

Pierre-Michel Lasogga – 5 – Literally didn’t help us at all, if anything it changed the momentum back in favour of Burton. In theory it’s a good substitution but he needs to work so much harder than what he does. And jump.

Kalvin Phillips – 6 – I thought Phillips did well when he came on. Worked hard tracking back and tried to get on the ball further forward. Didn’t have much time, I would expect him to replace O’Kane at Birmingham.

Matthew Pennington – N/A

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
