Earlier I posted the shortest but probably most had-hitting article I will probably ever write about Leeds United, titled “New Badge? Get Fucked”. The article lasted a sentence, only slightly less than the badge lasted today. Angus Kinnear has just basically said that the reaction has proved the club made a huge mistake.

The club has made a huge mistake, there is no doubt about that. The badge may have been done with good intentions but it is absolutely horrific. I haven’t been around as long as some Leeds fans, seen and done the things they have but since I have been a fan this has been the biggest reaction I have ever seem mainly thanks to social media. I have never seen Leeds fans so united as what they were today and Kinnear said that gives him encouragement and gets him excited even though he wished it hadn’t been under these circumstances. The club could have dug their heels in but didn’t, they made it very clear that they will now start this process again.

There are so many potential badges going around on social media and none are on the level the club are with their attempt. I’ve seen ones that are genuinely special and nearly all fans agree on how good they look. The issue here is that the club consulted ten thousand fans but never once asked what they wanted on the badge, the Leeds salute means a lot to us but an image of it on our crest is just horrific. Now we may all get a say in what the new crest is, and I don’t think Gaviscon will be the chosen one by most of us. we can now get back to matters on the pitch and look forward to having some say in the new badge.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
