Samu Saiz, six games. Eunan O’Kane, three games. Liam Cooper, four games. Kalvin Phillips, two games. Leeds United are having some serious discipline issues at the moment and four players who have played a lot of football this season are currently suspended and all of the red cards are just a case of players losing their heads. We expect more than this, and it’s been a terrible season for discipline.

Liam Cooper has already had one red card this season, Ronaldo Vieira one and Gaetano Berardi one. Four red cards have been straight, two headbutts, spitting and Liam Cooper’s lunge last week. The only one that is debatable is Cooper and his red card against Millwall. It wasn’t a red for me but you have to ask yourself how that situation came about. Yet again we were being outplayed at Elland Road by a team well below us and Liam Cooper couldn’t take a simple ball down and control it. He let it run and he lunged and gave the referee a decision to make. The handbags on the bench did it for him and the Leeds bench were as much to blame as the player but it really wasn’t a red card, just not what you expect a captain to do when we are is such a sticky patch at the moment.

Eunan O’Kane and Samu Saiz let themselves and the fans down with their actions, both juts ridiculous and you really have to ask the question, why on earth did they do what they did? We’re on a bad run and that simply isn’t good enough. Kalvin Phillips was slightly unlucky to get booked but it was coming for him anyway and Adam Forshaw arriving means he needs to up his game anyway, maybe the next couple of games will make him realise his consistency has to improve hugely to keep his place. O’Kane said the players were disappointed with Samu Saiz after Newport then got sent off a week later. Cooper and Christiansen then said we didn’t have discipline issues, Cooper got sent off two days later and Christiansen allowed his bench to kick off on the sidelines.

Actions speak louder than words. That goes along with the theme at the moment. If you are going to defend your players over discipline, don’t let them make you look daft days later and if you say you are going to spend all of the money raised from the sale of a player, spend that money.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
