Brentford are one of the in-form sides in the division and are coming of the back of thumping Birmingham City 5-0 during the week. Dean Smith sets his side out to play only one way and they come packed with underrated players and over achievers in their squad. We will have to be on it from the start tomorrow because Brentford will know if they play their game and play well they will get goals, can we cope with them?
MY XI (4-4-1-1)
GK – Andy Lonergan – I think Wiedwald has lost his defence, I think he’s a better all-round keeper compared to Lonergan but we need someone talking. Ironic it would be the reverse fixture of Lonergan’s nightmare game this season if he did start. New keeper required in summer.
RB – Vurnon Anita – Should never have been dropped during the week for me but the disaster had by Laurens De Bock has to be in the mind of Paul Heckingbottom and maybe shifting Berardi or Anita there is the short-term answer.
CB – Pontus Jansson – The same required from Jansson who is becoming increasingly frustrated that his fellow defenders are simply not up to scratch.
CB – Liam Cooper – Shouldn’t be starting after being directly involved in both goals we conceded at Derby but he probably gives us more stability than Matthew Pennington. Is not the answer to play in a side chasing the paly-offs going forward.
LB – Gaetano Berardi – Didn’t play great on his return but didn’t do much wrong either. Will do a job at left-back, always has done.
RW – Hadi Sacko – Gjanni Alioksi will most probably start after his goal in the week but I would like to see Sacko start just to get us going at Brentford and get them on the back foot. I don’t expect much in the way of creating great chances but just get us into areas and cause mayhem.
CM – Kalvin Phillips – I am Ronaldo Vieira’s biggest fan but something has to be done about his form. Confidence is shot to bits so maybe leave him out, the issue is Ryan Woods and co. are some of the most talented central midfielders in the league, crucial area tomorrow.
CM – Adam Forshaw – Probably one of, if not the first name on the team-sheet currently.
LW – Stuart Dallas – I thought Dallas was one of the better players at Derby and he deserves to keep his place. Ideally he would play from the right which he will if Alioski plays but if it was Sacko then Dallas down the left.
CAM – Samu Saiz – No need for me to explain.
ST – Pierre-Michel Lasogga – One of the most in-form strikers in the division currently and although a lot of his play isn’t wonderful he is bagging the goals and causing defenders a nightmare. Give him the service and he seems like he will deliver the goods.
