A bizarre month in the life of Leeds United has seen Andrea Radrizzani gone from slating the Wolverhampton Wanderers model to confessing he may actually try to follow it. We have now been linked with Diogo Goncalves, a Benfica winger and more importantly a client of Jorge Mendes.

Wondering who Jorge Mendes is? He is the man in charge of the recruitment of foreign players at Wolverhampton Wanderers, basically he is the reason they are currently on the brink of promotion. He was the reason that Wily Boly, Leo Bonatini, Ruben Neves, Heldar Costa, Ivan Calvaleiro and Diogo Jota all arrived at the club and those players are on another level compared to most in this division. Goncalves, a 21 year-old Benfica winger falls into this category despite not playing loads of first-team football. Mendes is most famously known for being the agent of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho but the list of clients he has stretches far and wide, and according to Andrea Radrizzani he knows Mendes very well.

These type of deals would almost certainly be loans with a view to buy, like many of the ones Wolves have and it would give us the edge over many teams if we were to bring in this calibre of players. Whether or not this story (which has come from Portugal) is true we can’t say for sure but what we do know is that if a story comes from abroad then the chances are there is something in the story, if it comes from British press you can call it a 70/30 it’s just hot air, unless it’s local again (to Leeds). If this is a story that has substance it would signal a change in strategy at the football club, Andrea Radrizzani meaning what he said about loaning in five or six players from top European clubs.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
