Luke Ayling returned to the side as captain today and what a performance he put on. It didn’t look like he had ever been away and he improved us dramatically with pure passion and character. He also had something very interesting to say after the game about his pal Kyle Bartley.

Ayling on Bartley,

“I speak to  him every day. I am going away with him twice this summer (to Vegas and Marbella). I’ll be in his ear, don’t you worry about that, trying to get him back.”

Luke Ayling’s return to the side was so effective as a right-back you could really question how important he actually is to the side, because we seem to have missed him more than we have any other player who has been injured or suspended this season. The fact he was a key part of the side last season didn’t go unnoticed but there were the likes of Chris Wood, Kyle Bartley, Pontus Jansson and Rob Green who all took the headlines and Ayling was probably taken for granted in the end. He is best mates with Kyle Bartley and that certainly helps our cause this summer, the number one target Bartley needs some convincing and Ayling will get some time to do just that.

Phil Hay revealed that Kyle Bartley is the number one target this summer and that is music to the ears of Leeds United fans who have watched our defence crumble this season. The replacement for Bartley was Matthew Pennington and that simply hasn’t worked. Liam Cooper was the other player expected to fill the void and although we already knew he wasn’t good enough he started the season so well we all jumped on board, and he fell back into his ways and that simply won’t take us forward at all. We need Bartley back and that signing would set the tone for a good summer, all on you Luke…

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
