Frustrated with Brighton claiming parental rights over Ben White, especially after Leeds United brought him up as one of their own children, the Whites have gone all German and are now targetting SC Freiburg’s central defender Robin Koch.

That’s three bids turned down by Brighton who are finally showing the sort of resolve that they will need to replicate on the pitch next season to avoid scrambling around in the footings of the table. These refused bids are even more galling in that they come after Ben White has turned down three contract offers at the Seagulls. It’s obvious that he doesn’t want to be there.

Regardless of that and who wants to be where, Brighton have set their stall out, Ben White has set his stall out and it is time for Leeds United to simply move on. Leeds United moving on means that some of those other targets that have been on the back-burner are now being warmed up. Robin Koch is one of those.

News of him being on the radar was first confirmed by Victor Orta in an interview with the YEP’s Graham Smyth. Orta singled Koch out for an explanation of Leeds United’s thinking on transfer and how they use the system they have at the club. It’s a system that will be needed now that Brighton seem adamant that they will keep Ben White captive at the AMEX Stadium.

Maybe second-choice won’t be too bad after all. Let’s see if Brighton can get the same out of a disaffected Ben White as Bielsa did.
