Leeds United fans and transfer windows tend not to make the best bedfellows. Evidence of the worst of that:
The above tweet sent on transfer deadline day was when the Whites were chasing Italian striker Leonardo Pavoletti. They didn’t get him and ended up selling Matt Smith and Dom Poleon instead. So, that is why this window has been somewhat refreshing.

That seems to inch closer as United look for support and back-up to Liam Cooper and Robin Koch what with Gaetano Berardi likely out for the season. Of course, there are those saying that around £18m is too much for an unproven youngster such as Gvardiol with just a few first-team appearances to his name. Oh, and it also brings up the old ‘Leeds are doing a Fulham’ etc blather that seems to be prevalent on the lips of neutral observers and rival fans.
What is does show is that the Whites have ambition in the transfer market once more. Rather than going for a scattergun approach that used to be used previously, they are more considered in the market now. It’s a sniper approach that has identified the likes of Gvardiol and Barcelona ace Rafinha.
Leeds United fans will be hoping that it is an approach that pays off.
