It has tonight been confirmed that Leeds United have indeed secured the deal for youngster Matthew Pennington. The Everton centre back will join on a season-long-loan as Leeds move to address their defensive problems.
Pennington is very highly rated at Everton and a season-long-loan is said to be the best way for the youngster to develop. At 22 he still has much to learn but some very valuable game time was experienced in the Premier League in the last couple of season. A goal at Anfield meant he will go down in Everton history and the youngster is hoping to have a big future at the club. Everton do see him as a future first-team regular and a loan was on the cards for some time, Hill City and Middlesbrough the two other clubs in the race, both beaten to the signature by Leeds.
Pennington has flown to Austria tonight and will train in the morning, Leeds are expected to officially confirm it tomorrow or in the coming days, but the deal is done. Pennington seems to be a very good signing for the club on paper and Thomas Christiansen will be delighted to get another centre back through the door with only two at the club. Liam Cooper has struggled to hold down a place and Pontus Jansson is a guaranteed starter, but apart from that we have no other options.
The Everton fan view will be along tomorrow.
