Leeds have today continued their recruitment drive for the academy by signing Spanish centre back Oriol Rey after his contract came to an end at Barcelona, meaning Leeds have now signed three youngsters from Barcelona in the last few weeks.
Rey joins the likes of Kun and Adrian Balboa who have both left the Barcelona academy to sign for Leeds this summer. The three of them link up with Alejandro Machuca, Ousama Siddiki and Magdar Gomes who have all already put pen to paper on Leeds United contracts in recent weeks. Rey has signed a two-year-deal with the club and will probably hope to get a chance in the first team before those two years are up, taking him to the age of 21.
Leeds aren’t in the process of a mini Spanish revolution anymore, we are currently in the midst of a full-blown Spanish revolution. Rey becomes the sixth player to arrive from Spain this summer for the development side alone, and along with Ivan Bravo, a board member from Real Madrid, Victor Orta, the new director of football, the full coaching staff including Thomas Christiansen and Samu Saiz the revolution seems in full swing.
More are set to follow.
