Leeds are closing a deal to sign recently released Juventus centre-back Ouasim Bouy tonight. The defender, who can also play as a central midfielder has recently ended his tenure with the Italian Champions after five years and various loans elsewhere.
Before we get too excited Phil Hay has confirmed that he will be loaned straight out to Cultural Leonesa in Spain, Leeds’ new feeder club. The deal is actually encouraging and the fact we can just loan him out and see how he progresses is also encouraging but it feels less so due to the fact we still need a centre back for the actual Leeds United team. If that wasn’t the case this deal would go down a treat. A player who Juve clearly rated for five years joining and being loaned out isn’t a bad thing. I think the main issue here is that he is already 24, clearly has pedigree so surely he would be worth keeping here given the lack of defensive options currently.
Bouy joined Juventus from Ajax five years ago and was loaned to clubs such as Zwolle, Hamburg and Panathanikos. The deal is expected to be confirmed very soon and I suppose we have to look at it as a positive because it is, but we do need to be addressing the first-team sooner rather than later with the season less than a week away. It’s yet another player who has signed from abroad with unknown potential but pedigree. Once this deal is confirmed we will do some more digging on his history and ability.
