Leeds Rhinos will be making the short trip from North Leeds to South Leeds on Saturday as Leeds United host Reading. Andrea Radrizzani took to twitter to wish the Rhino’s good luck and congratulate them on their success and has now invited the rugby league side to parade the Grand Final trophy to the fans at Elland Road.
The Rhinos beat Castleford on Saturday at old Trafford to bring the Grand Final trophy back to Leeds for a record 8th time. The rugby league club have tweeted saying they are delighted with the gesture from Leeds United and it is the first of many events between the two clubs who are just a few miles apart. Based in Headingly the two clubs have rarely crossed in terms of events for the city but under Andrea Radrizzani you can only see the football club making a huge effort to unite everyone around the whole city and surrounding areas. Many Leeds United fans follow the Rhinos and Marching On Together is even sung before games in Headingly.
I don’t know a great deal about rugby at all so I won’t get into what happened at the weekend or indeed the season. What I do know is how good it is for the city that the rugby club, who are one of the best in the business and the football club, with such rich history and huge potential and support having links is only a good thing. Both are very important for the city and the communities and perhaps the introduction of Andrea Radrizzani into the fold is exactly what both clubs needed to come together at times. A big congratulations tom the Rhinos, and we will see them at Elland Road on Saturday.
