Another night where the arse fell out of Leeds United late on, just like it has done on the previous two occasions at Elland Road. Players have let themselves down, not all but some and we continue to slump in dramatic fashion, the great start to the season a distant memory. Despite the loss a few players had their best games for a while, but not many. Thomas Christiansen now very much under the spotlight.

Andy Lonergan – 6 – Didn’t do much wrong last night but there was a couple of occasions he allowed Chris Martin  to bully him at corners. Was left exposed for the first and the penalty was what it was.

Luke Ayling – 4 – Both goals came down his side, like the winner for Sheffield United and the winner for Reading. He was nowhere when the cross came into the box from our right, Winnall smashing home from close range. His performances are the worst since he has been at the club. Really has to up it.

Pontus Jansson – 6 – One of the better players on the night although his confidence is clearly still coming back. A couple of poor passes but in the main I thought he was good. Couldn’t do much for the first and certainly not the second.

Matthew Pennington – 5 – Had one very good block in the first half but he isn’t filling me with any sort of confidence with his performances. I can’t see him keeping his place when Liam Cooper is back, but there is another who isn’t nailing down a place. Shaughnessy?

Stuart Dallas – 5 – I thought he had a good hour at left-back then the whole thing began to unravel, including Stuart Dallas playing out of position. He seemed to be exposed by Derby and they had the freedom of both flanks at Elland Road.

Kemar Roofe – 6 – Playing well in the first half and linking up with Saiz and Lasogga. Didn’t have as much influence in the second but he certainly shouldn’t have been taken off before Alioski who was doing zero apart from lose the ball on the other side going forward.

Ronaldo Vieira – 8 – I don’t understand why, just because we lost the better performers have to be brought down with the others. Vieira was brilliant all night and couldn’t help that Christiansen got his subs wrong and  individual errors cost us.

Eunan O’Kane – 6 – He was better than he has been in any game for well over a month but he began to give the ball away towards the end. Instead of brining on fresh legs in the middle of the park and adapting to the situation Christiansen waited until Derby scored, and were on top…then made the wrong subs anyway.

Gjanni Alioski – 4 – Did well coming backwards in the first half but his performances have been terrible. Couldn’t take a set-piece without hitting the first man and did nothing of note all game.

Samu Saiz – 7 – Worked so hard but just doesn’t seem to have the players doing what he wants around him. Lovely assist for the goal.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga – 7 – His best game for a long time. Won most battles in the air and was moving much better. Took his goal very well, it seemed like there was little doubt that he would score when Saiz slipped him in early on.

Hadi Sacko – 4

Pablo Hernandez – 4

Jay-Roy Grot – 3

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
