According to Local Finnish outlet MTV Leeds are closing in on signing one of the hottest talents in Finnish football. 19-year-old centre-back Aapo Halme is said to be joining the club “in the next few days” and is described as a “wonderkid” by the reports.
The news surfaced today and was confirmed by Phil Hay this afternoon. The interest is there and it seems like a very big possibility that Halme will head over to Leeds soon. The outlet, MTV have also described a “significant transfer fee” but that is from the point of view of HJK Helsinki and not that of Leeds so you have to make your own conclusion on that one. The youngster has made 36 appearances for Helsinki and was part of the side who romped the Finnish league last season and according to the reports he is a “key” target for Leeds during this window. We already know that scouts are all over Europe looking at potential talent.
We aren’t really needing a centre-back currently but if it’s for the development side of things, which Phil Hay has suggested this afternoon it’s another youngster to develop at the football club. I must admit I do like the idea that we are scouting far and wide for the development side of things but I also hope that we aren’t just planning on signing youngsters this window. We are in a good position and we have the chance of hitting the play-offs or higher if we were to bring in some players of good quality. The league is as open, and as average as I’ve seen it for a long time, and the opportunity is there for us.
