The drama behind Adam Clayton celebrating a goal against us needs to be put in the past. In the whole scheme of things it really isn’t a big deal at all. He is a player that could make a huge difference to Leeds in the second half of the season, for so many reasons.

Eunan O’Kane stupidly stuck his head towards Kundson’s yesterday, allowing the player to react how he did. That means three games out. Kalvin Phillips is having an up and down season and is one yellow card away from a ban. Ronaldo Vieira is injured which means the potential partnership of Matty Klich and Conor Shaughnessy is very much a possibility at some point in the very near future, a partnership that is miles off where we need to be. Yosuke Ideguchi arrived just in time, then left as quickly as he arrived, off on loan so he isn’t an option, a midfielder in the January window is crucial, and Adam Clayton, a player linked and who has expressed interest in coming to Leeds is available.

“But he celebrated against us” Who actually cares? If had slagged the fans off then maybe, but celebrating after scoring against a manager who transfer listed you isn’t a crime, and if a Leeds player scored against his old club and didn’t celebrate I wouldn’t be annoyed, but definitely disappointed he felt like that was more important than expressing how he felt about scoring for us. He is a player who can control a game, put his foot on the ball and decide whether he wants to speed it up or slow it down. On top of that he knows this league inside out and can hit the ground running, where signings from abroad can take time to adapt as we have seen already this season with many players.

The rumours are that we had scouts watching Adam Clayton in the Boro under 23’s game this weekend but that worries me more than anything. For me there should be a network in place in England so when players like Adam Clayton become available we already know whether or not we want the player. On top of that Victor Orta left Boro in the summer and came to Leeds United, so he should already know if Adam Clayton is what we need and want at the club surely? It’s fair to say that the scouting and transfer policy are firmly in focus at the moment and the only things that will take the pressure off the likes of Orta is currently players improving rapidly and new signings arriving and making an impact.

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
