The sale of Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool from Southampton has found its way to our doorstep, simply because Pontus Jansson is now a rumoured target for the saints. The Swedish international isn’t going anywhere, straight from his agent who says he’s staying to take Leeds United to the Premier League.

Jansson signed a new five-year-deal in October and now his agent has made it very clear he will be hanging around. There is no surprise that Premier League teams are interested in the player but Jansson seems to get Leeds United which doesn’t always happen with players at this club. He and his partner have settled in the area and were looking to buy a house before he signed a new long-term deal with the club so both parties know they need each other. Jansson was ready to quit football after moving to Torino and facing injuries and no game-time. Leeds gave him a chance and he took that chance in emphatic fashion.

Jansson is the most passionate player at the club in terms of what we see, even Gaetano Berardi goes under the radar compared to the big Swede at times. He is one of the highest paid players at the club and will be delighted with the ambition shown by the club today in signing Adam Forshaw for £4.5 million. Jansson arrived on loan from Torino before Leeds paid £3.5 million for him during the summer. Since then he has signed a new deal and continued to impress in a Leeds shirt, a fans favourite wouldn’t do him justice when you describe him. Let them talk, his agent said exactly what we need to hear.

“The interest (Southampton) in Pontus is great but he is fully focused on taking Leeds to the Premier League”

About Author

Born in Gibraltar, raised in Scotland from a very young age. Been a huge fan of Leeds United since I could walk and talk, thanks to my Dad, the English half of me. After a few years in Australia I moved to Leeds, the trips from Scotland down to the city a few times a season didn't cut it. Love the city. Love the people, and the 12 hour round trip to Elland Road is about a 20 minute round trip. Love writing about the club, the more I write the more I feel comfortable doing it. As long as it's enjoyable I'll continue to do so, keep looking to step it up and progress as well. Leeds United is more than just a football team for me, as is it with so many others.
