Paul Heckingbottom was very complimentary about youngster Ryan Edmondson during his appearance on BBC Leeds last night and there is little reason to ask yourself why. Victor Orta signed the player for the development squads and it’s fair to say he’s a kid with a bright future.
Edmondson was signed from York City for an undisclosed fee after Leeds picked up on the talent the 16-year-old striker was showing. He had scored goals for the first-team at York and was brought in as part of a huge operation to kick off a development programme at the club that will see future rewards for the foundations now being laid by the club. He arrived alongside the likes of Oriol Rey, Kun and Adrian Balboa from Barcelona, Ouasama Siddiki from Real Madrid and Oliver Sarkic from Benfica amongst many others. Orta recently said they believed we signed the best young striker in Yorkshire and he’s making a name for himself in the youth side.
Yesterday he bagged a hat-trick for the reserves against Notts County in a behind closed doors game, stepping up to the next level clearly seamless on the day. He’s becoming more known to fans now as his name keeps on appearing as the under 18’s steamroll their division and he keeps bagging the goals. He isn’t along, Jack Clarke has now made the step from 18’s to 23’s and is making the impact the club wanted, if Edmondson keeps developing the way he’s started at Leeds we could be talking about him getting a chance in the first-team in the next few years.
