A game I said Paul Heckingbottom had to win and he did, it seems unlikely there will be a change in coach at the end of the season so Heckingbottom needs a big summer from the people above him as well as himself and the players. A loss against his old club today would have made life very difficult for him and as it was the Barnsley fans were left fuming with the man who left them for Leeds.
Ratings
Baily Peacock-Farrell – 8 – The save in the first-half was incredible. So impressive again in all aspects.
Matthew Pennington – 6 – A bizarre player at times. Can’t kick the ball one minute then he did a few flicks and went round the Barnsley left-back. Strange.
Pontus Jansson – 5 – Not himself today, almost cost us a goal just losing the ball and not sure what actually happened with the goal.
Paudie O’Connor – 6 – Scored the OG but not being able to see it back yet I’m unsure what happened, looked to me like Jansson lunged and missed but I don’t know. Was steady.
Tom Pearce – 8 – #PASMOM – I thought he was the best outfield player at Villa park for Leeds and he certainly was today. Very good in possession, pinging balls left to right, scoring a great goal and playing a beauty of a pass to Roofe for the second. Talent.
Kalvin Phillips – 6 – Had a few good moments but in the main he just ebbed and flowed like the game.
Ronaldo Vieira – 7 – Dominated the midfield apart from twenty minutes towards the end of the second half. looks back to his best, throwing his weight around and driving with the ball.
Gjanni Alioksi – 7 – Got his goal but with the amount of positions he gets into in the final third he needs to improve next season.
Samu Saiz – 5 – Off the boil is an understatement.
Pablo Hernandez – 6 – The better of the three attacking midfielders, got on the ball and tried to make things happen.
Kemar Roofe – 8 – Really turned it on during spells in the second half and gave Barnsley a torrid time in the channels. The assist for the second was fabulous and he almost did it again from the other side minutes later.
