Leeds United fans have been looking to the January transfer window with equal measure of hope and resignation. Hope, that the club will dive in; resignation that they likely will not.
For a while now, in fact since he was signed on as manager, Marcelo Bielsa has insisted that he is happy with his lot. In a way, that has left many Leeds United fans decidedly ‘unhappy’.
Bielsa’s insistence that he’s happy with his players and lot at Elland Road, despite mounting injury concerns, has led to lots of head-scratching. However, the Argentinian’s comments during his pre-QPR FA Cup presser have given rise to increased hope of transfer arrivals.
MB on transfers: “Samu Saiz left, Pablo now plays as a playmaker and we need a winger. The injury of Jamal Blackman has not been covered by another player. These are the two positions that were solved at the start of the competition and now we’re trying to find another one” #lufc

Talking here that “we need a winger” more than drops a hint that the Whites are actively looking to cover the move of Pablo Hernandez into the playmaker position.
Moving the Spanish wizard more centrally has left an opening for a winger, something many Leeds fans have said the side could do with more options in. Many Leeds fans might hope that it could link to interest in Swiss international Steven Zuber, something we postulated about here on The72.
Yet, could Bielsa’s frank admission point to and hint at links much closer to home? Could what Bielsa said actually point to the reason behind Leeds United’s linked interest to Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe?
That was something that was put into the public arena by media giants Sky Sports yesterday, and again it was covered here on The72. The 24-year-old is on the radar of a host of Championship sides such as Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, West Brom and Middlesbrough.
Lowe has impressed for League One table toppers Pompey this season and has scored 11 goals in 29 games in all competitions.
The Harrow-born forward joined Portsmouth in October 2016 from non-league side Hampton and Richmond Borough, for whom he scored 33 goals in 54 games.
His capture by Portsmouth has turned out to have been an inspired signing. He has played just under 100 games for the Fratton Park club since his move.
With Bielsa admitting that the Whites are looking for a winger, the only question that one needs to ask is whether it is Jamal Lowe that Leeds United are seeking.
