Leeds United fans saw a 51-game no-penalty drought broken earlier this season against QPR, It was a hand-ball that led to a goal from 12 yards out converted by Kemar Roofe.
Before that it was a missed penalty from Pablo Hernandez against Reading for the Whites last spot kick the season before. It was such a long-running saga that it eventually morphed into joke.
All talk of penalties aside, that hasn’t stopped a hugely impressive Leeds United side striding out and hitting the top spot in the Sky Bet Championship.
That’s where they are at the moment and rightly so. Tonight the are taking on a resurgent, and dangerous Derby County side. It was the Rams who felt the very sharp edge of Leeds’ sword as they were blasted away 4-1 at Pride Park.
Derby were never even saddled up, never mind at the races that day as Leeds blasted out of the traps. The Whites started the same way in tonight’s game, tearing at Derby from the off.
That attacking urgency, that power from the first whistle put the visitors to Elland Road under intense pressure. It was pressure that had Derby County rocking and reeling from the off.
Inside a minute, Leeds were awarded a penalty after a clumsy foul on Gjanni Alioski. However, the unprecedented two-penalties-in-a-season award was soon chalked off due to a more than dubious offside decision given by the nearside linesman.

The above video, obviously not available to the linesman at the time, shows very clearly that Alioski was onside and by some margin. Still, it mattered not and the awarded penalty was wiped off.
It was a decision that, as you’d expect, was not well received by Leeds United fans on Twitter. Here’s what some Leeds United fans reacted like to the ‘offside’ decision.

Nowhere near offside from TV.

About 4 yards onside too. Football league is corrupt.
