Leeds United would have been invigorated with the arrival of Swansea’s Dan James. However, churlishness from the Swans end saw that wasn’t to be.

The former Hull City youth player sat there patiently waiting for the two clubs to seal the clasp on his Deadline Day deal to Elland Road from South Wales.

However, it wasn’t to be with Swansea refusing to pick up the ever-increasingly desperate phone calls from Leeds United. End result? The 11pm deadline trickled by, Leeds were left without their man but their fans were left with plenty of vitriol.

However, the following ‘interest’, posted by Sun reporter Alan Nixon to his personal Twitter feed, will see memories of James melt away.

Of course, Leeds Untied fans are well versed in who Burnley winger Aaron Lennon is. He came up through the youth system at Elland Road before leaving on a £1.1m deal to Spurs at the opening of the summer 205 window at the beginning of that July.

He featured in 40 games for Leeds, scoring once and providing four assists in total. His move to Tottenham saw him rack up 364 appearances, appearances that returned 30 goals and 77 assists for the North London side.

That output saw him involved in a goal every 248 minutes for Spurs, be it scoring or assisting. Eventually though, his time at Spurs was up and Lennon moved to Everton in 2015 for a fee of £5.4m.

At the Toffees, Lennon made 77 appearances, scoring nine time and providing six assists before a £1.5m move to Burnley at the end of January last year. At Turf Moor, Lennon has featured just 36 times, scoring once and adding three assists.

Despite not making the Burnley squad in the last eight games, the 21-cap England winger has still featured 16 times in this season’s Premier League campaign, scoring once and providing one assist.

Nixon tongue-in-cheek points out that Leeds United are “hiding in the bushes” at Lennon’s house, a jocular reference to the Spygate saga from a few weeks back. Thing is though, Leeds United know enough about their former youngster to not need to take such measures.
