Knock knock. Who’s there? Edinson…*door slammed in the face. Yes, we are a big side and yes we sell column inches just by the mere mention of our name. But, Edinson Cavani, leave it out.
So, when a scaled-down rumour comes through that we are interested in Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard, then everything is just that little more believable. It’s more in our achievement and belief range. Anyway, £20m was meant to be the price but that deal isn’t anywhere closer as of yet.
So, according to the Daily Mail and their Mail Online portal, should it be a firm “Non!” for Frenchman Edouard, then Leeds United are going to scamper along the M62 and pester Liverpool for a double deal to land Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster.
Both Brewster and Origi would be great additions to the Whites; you could see Marcelo Bielsa pretty much coaching them above the level that they are playing at right now. That’s no slight on Jurgen Klopp, by the way, who is a fine coach in his own right. It’s just that, well, he isn’t Marcelo Bielsa.
Brewster is coming off a decent cameo half-season loan at Swansea City where he lit up South Wales with 10 goals in 20 Sky Bet Championship appearances for the Swans. Belgian Origi, a Champions League Final scorer in 2019, has 28 Premier League appearances under his belt this season, albeit mostly from the Liverpool bench. In the 703 minutes that he’s featured, he has still managed to score 4 goals and contribute 3 assists.
I know it’s just column inches talking, but I can really see the Reds pair leaving Whites fans tickled pink if we were to land them.
