Steel yourself, the media column inches are gearing up and the transfer tombola begins its slooooowwww spin. Don’t panic, we have removed the likes of Zlatan and Cavani from the mix. The next said ready to step into the prize window is Rangers star Ryan Kent.
There is interest on the board from Leeds for Kent, a player much admired by Marcelo Bielsa. That interest is concrete with a bid of £10m being put down as a marker by the West Yorkshire giants. If it was a marker, then it was non-permanent and was dismissed by the Gers as not a suitable amount to entice their machinations.
However, that hasn’t stopped Leeds United getting all covetous over the former Liverpool winger and there were said to be some overtones of the Whites going back in with an offer and a clear marker that they would double Kent’s wages with a move to the Premier League. Some rejoicing to be had? Maybe.
Now website 90MIN.com say that Kent “has told the Scottish club that he wants the chance to move back to the Premier League with Leeds United.” Whilst that is not a formal transfer request, it does signal Kent’s ulterior intent that Ibrox is not the place where he sees his future.
Rangers will put up a proper fight to keep the former Liverpool flyer who already has three goals this season so far. However, if he has said that he wants to leave Ibrox, that will be a test of the Scottish giant’s resolve.
