Spain’s in the news for Leeds United fans today. It’s a possible case of one in, one out for the Whites. Hopefully inbound is Valencia’s dangerous striker Rodrigo whilst young United midfield starlet Alfie McCalmont has a loan offer on the table from a team on the party island of Ibiza.
20-year-old midfield starlet McCalmont has only just signed a four-year deal for Leeds, an indication of the high level of regard that the youngster is held in. To press, he’s stood out in the Under-23s at Elland Road, his only two appearances for the first-team being two Carabao Cup games this season against Salford and Stoke City.
McCalmont is definitely ‘one for the future’ and Leeds United will be looking to develop him with exposure to the rigours of first-team football. One offer on the table is a loan to Spain and Union Deportivo Ibiza. UD Ibiza play in the third-tier of Spanish football and were beaten out in the promotion play-offs for a place in La Liga 2, or La Segunda as the Spanish term it.
Should this loan turn out to see youngster McCalmont jetting out to Ibiza, he’ll team up with a familiar face in Alex Machuca who left Leeds United U-23s for the third-tier side last July, going on to make 17 appearances in the league.
