Nobody likes us, we don’t care. That is a phrase that Leeds United fans wrap around themselves like a protective blanket when they suffer the slings and daggers of outrageous fortune hoicked at them by anyone ‘not Leeds’.
Believe it or not, there’s a fair few out there like that. Many live either over the hill in that dark place called Manchester and follow the team from a place called Trafford so they aren’t even proper Manchester. Indeed, it is almost Salford. Alternatively, they support that team in the Big Smoke that is managed by Frank who does analysis too, you know.
The latest to join the ‘We Hate You Crew’ is Spanish politician Manola Mata:
Y Rodrigo ficha por el Huesca inglés…
— Manolo Mata (@manolomata) August 25, 2020
Translated, his tweet says: “And Rodrigo signs for the English Huesca.”
Huesca is the capital city of the Spanish province of Aragon in north-eastern Spain. Mata’s sour uvas are there and clear to be seen – there is no hiding it. It is something that has come in for criticism in the Spanish prensa. Es Diario stated that one response was:
“A politician messing up when he talks. Huesca would like to have the structure, money, social mass, history, stadium, etc. that Leeds United has. Before you tweet something, make sure you don’t mess up. It doesn’t cost that much, even if you don’t have the secretary on duty by your side.”
The thing is, no one expects someone like Manolo Mata to understand; Leeds United is not for him.
Besides, no-one likes us and we don’t care.
